Using the LM 20.3 live system, I would start by restructuring my filesystems. In case I had not done so before, I would backup all my user data (very likely my whole home directory tree) and start all over from scratch.

In case it were me, who had run into an "out of space on device" error, while in-place upgrading from LM 19.3 to LM 20 and then from LM 20 to LM 20.3, I would stop at this point and drop the process of in-place upgrading.
